Lyrics

First Time to Memphis
Words and Music by Frank Barter

It was my first time to Memphis
The southern sun was sitting on the town
It was my first time to Memphis
The city streets sat on sacred ground

Little did I know
I'd be staying for awhile
Living where the river starts to wind

It was my first time to Memphis
The ghosts inside my head, they heard the sound
It was my first time to Memphis
The magic dance and the truck parked, glory bound

The innocence was freed
The ghost, they smiled for awhile
Living where the river starts to wind

It was my first time to Memphis
The song was sung and the mystery was undone
It was my first time to Memphis
All who stood prisoner could now run

The poor they all found gold
And the lonely they all found love
Living where the river starts to wind

It was my first time to Memphis
The southern sun was sitting on the town
It was my first time to Memphis
The city streets sat on sacred ground
